Can't see any performance improvement

So, I tried it on my app, there was no difference. Then I've downloaded test solution (from documentation / investigating issues), modified HomeController About action to measure first hit on page and still I can't see any improvement. Code that I've changed:
        public ActionResult About()
            var sw = Stopwatch.StartNew();
            ViewBag.Message = sw.Elapsed.TotalMilliseconds;
            return View();
In debug mode first hit to that page is 160ms, second 0.6ms. In release mode first hit is 6ms, second 0.3ms. So clearly it's compiling it on first hit instead of using precompiled class.

Are there any extra steps needed to make that project work as expected?

It looks like this is expected behavior. In release mode, it's using precompiled version, so time is reduce from 160ms to 6ms. I guess the difference between 6ms & 0.3ms from loading in assembly that contains compiled view.
